FAQ

Yes! Not all Invisalign providers are the same; what makes the difference is training and experience. Any dentist can provide Invisalign after taking a course. An orthodontist does years of additional training after becoming a dentist to learn tooth movement, healthy bite and esthetic smile design. As a heart surgeon is better trained to do heart surgery than a primary care physician, so an orthodontist is trained on tooth movement. When you are scanned for Invisalign, the doctor receives a recommended plan from Invisalign. The doctor can accept that plan or make modifications to it until he or she is satisfied. Often, the virtual outcome is far from what happens in reality. Dr. Jackson has both the training and experience to give you the absolute best result from your investment in Invisalign.

At CFO, we are committed to achieving and maintaining the best result possible for our clients. If you finish treatment but need additional work later on, you can come back to CFO and receive re-treatment free of charge.

At age 7, your child should see an Orthodontist. There are several benefits to being evaluated by an orthodontist at this age.

  1. Potential issues can be caught earlier, resulting in less complicated and shorter treatments, and overall better oral health.
  2. Certain life-changing benefits of orthodontics such as expansion or crossbite correction to allow symmetric jaw growth are only possible at this young age. Later, these become surgical corrections.
  3. Airway and sleeping problems can be diagnosed and treated early, resulting in a dramatic improvement in the quality of life for children suffering with these problems.
  4. Correction of severe crowding around age 7 may prevent the extraction of adult teeth later on.
  5. Your orthodontist can help address and curb detrimental habits such as thumb-sucking.
  6. Straight teeth have a direct positive impact on better oral health because they are easier to clean.
  7. You can have total peace of mind understanding exactly when and if your child needs ortho.

At CFO, we work with all dental insurances. For almost all dental insurances, you will receive the same orthodontic benefit whether you see an in-network orthodontist or not. If you would like to receive treatment at CFO, but we are not in-network with your insurance, we will work to make sure you are receiving the same benefit towards your treatment as you would if you went to an in-network orthodontist. And we take care of all that communication for you!

Getting braces is not painful, but you may experience some tenderness or soreness while your mouth adjusts. Here are some ways you can alleviate discomfort:

  • For the first few days after getting braces, stick to soft foods such as smoothies, soups, yogurt, and mashed potatoes.
  • For the lifetime of your braces, avoid hard or sticky foods such as caramel, gum, and popcorn to avoid irritating tender mouth tissues.
  • Your orthodontist can provide you with wax that can be placed on brackets and wires near the tender areas of the mouth.
  • A salt water rinse can be an effective way to soothe mouth irritation and encourage healing.
  • If needed, over-the-counter pain medication can also be used in the days following your new braces.

Like everything in life, there are pros and cons to both options. If you are wondering whether to have a fixed or removable retainer after having your teeth straightened, here are some considerations:

  • Mostly it comes down to preference, but there are a couple situations where we will strongly suggest a bonded retainer such as gap between your front teeth or severe crowding.
  • Bonded retainers make it easy to keep your teeth straight as they never leave your mouth.
  • Fixed retainers sit behind the teeth, making them nearly invisible.
  • Because a permanent retainer cannot be taken out, they can be challenging to clean.
  • If your permanent retainer breaks or comes loose, you will need to see your Orthodontist within a week to avoid teeth shifting.
  • When it comes to your oral hygiene routine, removable retainers are considered by many to be the easier option to clean.
  • Removable retainers can easily be misplaced or damaged.
  • Some non-permanent retainers can be seen when they are being worn, which isn’t ideal for all clients.
